It’s Okay For MTV Canada To Air Bully Beat Down: CBSC
FOR RELEASE AT 12:00 NOON AST ON JULY 21, 2010
FREDERICTON, NB--
On April 21, 2009 MTV Canada aired their first edition of Bully Beat Down. This show had the focus of allowing a Martial Arts fighter to bring a bully in to the ring, and “showing them how their victims feel”.
Game show host Jason “Mayhem” Miller hands $10, 000 cash to the bully for just stepping in to the ring. If the Bully wins the victim then gets the money.
Anti-Bullying Activist Rob Frenette feels this is wrong. “I can’t condone violence by giving a bully $10, 000 for stepping in to a ring to fight with a trained Martial Arts Artist”
Continued Frenette: “As someone who was bullied for eleven and a half years I can’t begin to understand why the CBSC could not see a violation with this program”
“I question the CBSC’s decision on allowing this program to continue to air, I’m disappointed.”
The full decision with all corresponding letters may be viewed online: http://www.cbsc.ca/english/index.php under “Recent Decisions”. The Decision is expected to be posted by 12 noon AST today.
