The Mealworm Diaries by Anna Kerz allows readers to understand how vulnerable today’s children are.
After loosing his father in an accident, Jeremy finds his mom moving them from their small town in Nova Scotia to the big city of Toronto. As if losing his dad and moving isn’t enough, one of his new classmates is really annoying. Much to his dismay and objection, Jeremy finds himself partnered with the too-loud Aaron. Little does he know, Aaron “Cantwait” has many lessons in store for Jeremy. Before he knows it, Aaron is helping Jeremy with the insecurities he has and Jeremy is actually sticking up for Aaron when people bully him.
Jeremy may not like Aaron but Aaron thinks they are the best of friends. Jeremy shows readers that you don’t have to like someone to stand up for them when they are being bullied and it’s ok to be nice to them – who knows, you may learn something – and make new friends.
