N.B. holds first anti-bullying day at schools across province

programs that teach students to intervene in bullying situations and educate their peers about the dangers of bullying.
Coy said cyber-bullying, especially, has become an increasingly serious issue.
“Technology has created a whole new dimension to bullying and harassment,” she said. “In the past, going home at night would allow you an escape from bullying at school, but now with texting on cellphones and social networking sites like Facebook and MSN, bullying can happen 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Education Minister Roland Hache was also on hand to announce that his department is taking a tougher stance against harassment of teachers and staff.
The new policy includes a section that addresses conflict resolution and prevention of inappropriate behaviour by parents. Bullying and cyber-bullying are included in a section entitled serious misconduct.
