N.B. MP returning to Ottawa with petition calling for bullying awareness day

FREDERICTON - A New Brunswick MP is heading back to Ottawa with a stack of papers filled with signatures from Canadians against bullying.

The petition, which contains more than 5,000 names, calls for a national day of awareness for bullying every Dec. 17.

Conservative Mike Allen, the MP for Tobique-Mactaquac, says he plans to table the petition in the House of Commons as soon as Wednesday.

The petition is the idea of anti-bullying advocate Robert Frenette, who says he was physically and verbally bullied in his school days.

The 19-year-old from New Brunswick says he wants Ottawa "to take a stand" against bullying.
